CAREER READINESS ACCELERATOR | INDUSTRY
Direct access to the talent most industry pipelines never reach.
The creative and media industries run on relationships. Most recruiting pipelines draw from the same small, overlapping set of institutions, competing for the same graduates, year after year. The Career Readiness Accelerator gives your team a structured, sustained way to build relationships with a much larger pool of skilled, motivated talent at broad-access colleges and universities, before they enter the job market.
CHALLENGE
As internal recruiting teams get smaller and more generalized, they become less equipped to evaluate a candidate's body of work or recognize the instincts that make for quality creative hires. By the time a senior leader gets involved in the hiring process, the candidate pool has often been thinned considerably by criteria that had little to do with actual ability. What gets lost is the depth that talented candidates from outside the conventional pipeline bring to a team: cultural fluency, fresh perspectives, and instincts that connect with audiences most searches never reach.
HOW IT WORKS
We partner with a broad-access college or university whose students align with your talent priorities. Your team is woven into the program’s fabric, not as a sponsor in the background, but as an active participant. A cohort of 20-25 students moves through 3-5 components, and your creative professionals are in the room for the parts that matter most, seeing how students think, take feedback, and develop their work.
01 — 1-to-1 Mentorship
Your team members are matched one-to-one with students whose discipline and career interests align with your organization. Over 4-6 sessions, mentor and student work together on portfolio critique, interview coaching, and professional narrative. By the end, your mentors know these students well.
02 — Mock Interview & Resume Bootcamp
Your team members rotate through mock interviews and portfolio reviews with the full student cohort, generating immediate impressions of emerging talent in a low-stakes environment.
03 — Creative Sprint Challenge
Students work through a real-world brief your organization develops, then present to a panel of your professionals. Industry Partners consistently come away surprised by the quality and freshness of perspective students bring.
04 — Career Storytelling Workshop
Your creative professionals share their own career trajectories with the student cohort, including the unexpected turns and unconventional paths that characterize most creative careers.
05 — “Day in the Life” Office Visits
You open your doors to the student cohort for a walkthrough of your workspace, workflows, and current projects, creating a lasting impression of your organization as one that invests in the next generation.
WHAT YOU GAIN
First Access to Talent Most Pipelines Don’t Reach
The people doing the hiring are in the room from the start, reviewing work, giving feedback, and watching students develop over the course of the program. By the time a student is ready to enter the job market, the relationship is already there. Industry Partners who participate over time build a genuine, self-sustaining pipeline from institutions that traditional recruiting rarely reaches.
The Build-vs-Buy Case
Building this kind of program internally is slow, expensive, and rarely produces a pipeline at the speed or scale needed to be effective. The Career Readiness Accelerator gives your team that infrastructure, built, managed, and continuously refined by Impact Collaborative, at a fraction of what it would cost to replicate internally. Your team shows up where their expertise counts. IC handles everything else.
Meaningful Employee Engagement
The chance to work directly with students who are talented, motivated, and hungry for guidance is personal and lasting. Professionals who mentor leave with a stronger sense of purpose and a deeper connection to the broader creative community and to their employers. For organizations investing in employee engagement and retention, this is programming that has measurable impact.
IN PRACTICE: LEHMAN COLLEGE + WARNER BROS. DISCOVERY
The Career Readiness Accelerator launched its first cohort in fall 2025 at Lehman College, a Hispanic-Serving Institution in the Bronx and part of the City University of New York system. Warner Bros. Discovery served as the Industry Partner, with mentors drawn from Warner Bros., HBO, HBO Max, and BBMG, each matched one-to-one with a student whose discipline aligned with their own.
Mentor Outcomes
75% of mentors described being surprised by the sophistication of students’ work and the freshness of perspectives they brought
83% mentors spoke to watching a student take feedback, incorporate it, and visibly grow in confidence over the course of the program
75% said they would recommend their mentee for a junior-level position
91% said they would participate again
Within weeks of the cohort’s completion, a VP of Brand Design at HBO Max reached out directly to Lehman faculty to refer program participants for two open roles, bypassing the centralized HR systems that typically screen out emerging creatives before a hiring manager ever sees their work.
Based on the results of the pilot, the program is expanding in fall 2026 to additional students, disciplines, and program components.
INVESTMENT
The Career Readiness Accelerator is designed as a shared investment. Your co-investment is matched by seed funding from the Institutional Partner, that Impact Collaborative recruits and manages. The Institutional Partner also identifies the student cohort, provides faculty champions, and promotes the collaboration within their institution.
The result is a fully resourced program that neither your organization nor the Institutional Partner would have been able to build alone, and a foundation for an ongoing, mutually beneficial relationship between your team and a growing network of colleges and universities whose students are trying to enter your industry.
