CAREER READINESS ACCELERATOR | HIGHER EDUCATION

Connecting your students to the professional networks, mentorship, and infrastructure that turn talent into careers.

The path from classroom to career in the Arts and Humanities is uniquely difficult, and the structural barriers facing students at broad-access institutions are persistent. The Career Readiness Accelerator was built to close that gap, giving your students direct access to the industry mentors, professional networks, and real-world experience that students at elite institutions often receive as a matter of course.

CHALLENGE

Your students have the talent. What they often lack is access to the professional networks that drive hiring, the industry-specific career infrastructure that most broad-access institutions don’t have, and the mentorship that helps talented graduates navigate a job market that was never built with them in mind. Half of all jobs in related industries are filled through personal connections. Without those connections, even your most talented students are largely invisible to the employers who would hire them.

HOW IT WORKS

We partner with your institution to identify a cohort of 20-25 students who will most benefit from the program. The cohort moves through 3-5 components designed to build professional confidence, strengthen portfolios and resumes, demystify the workplace, and forge the kinds of relationships that turn talented graduates into employed ones. The program can be delivered in person, virtually, or a combination of both, and is adaptable to your academic calendar and your students’ disciplines.

01 — 1-to-1 Mentorship

Each student is matched with a senior professional whose background aligns with their discipline and career interests. Over 4-6 sessions, mentor and student work together on portfolio and/or resume critique, interview coaching, job search strategy, and professional narrative.

02 — Mock Interview & Resume Bootcamp

An intensive full-day experience in which students rotate through mock interviews and portfolio/resume reviews with multiple industry mentors, generating immediate, actionable feedback in a low-stakes environment.

03 — Creative Sprint Challenge

Students work through a real-world brief developed in collaboration with an Industry Partner, then present to a panel of professionals for honest, constructive feedback.

04 — Career Storytelling Workshop

A facilitated panel session where professionals share their own career trajectories, including the unexpected turns and unconventional paths that characterize most creative and media careers.

05 — “Day in the Life” Office Visits

Industry Partners open their doors to student cohorts for walkthroughs of their workspaces, workflows, and current projects, making abstract career paths tangible.

WHAT YOU GAIN

A Direct Pipeline to Employers

Every hiring manager and senior professional who participates in the program comes away with a concrete, first-hand impression of your students, your program, and your institution. That impression doesn’t disappear when the cohort ends. Over time, participating institutions build a genuine employer pipeline, a network of companies and leaders who have met your graduates, evaluated their work, and are predisposed to hire from your program.

Industry Relationships Your Institution Owns

Impact Collaborative recruits, manages, and coordinates the mentor and Industry Partner network, but the relationships your institution builds through the program are yours to keep. Mentors become guest speakers, visiting practitioners, and adjunct instructors. Industry Partners become ongoing collaborators for sponsored projects, capstone briefs, research initiatives, and curriculum development.

Graduates Who Are Ready

Students who complete the program enter the job market with more than a stronger career narrative. They have been through real professional feedback, practiced their interview skills with working professionals, and built meaningful relationships with people who make hiring decisions in their field.

IN PRACTICE: LEHMAN COLLEGE + WARNER BROS. DISCOVERY

The Career Readiness Accelerator launched its first cohort in fall 2025 at Lehman College, a Hispanic-Serving Institution in the Bronx and part of the City University of New York system. Twelve design students participated, each matched with a senior creative professional from Warner Bros. Discovery, HBO, HBO Max, and BBMG.

Student Outcomes

  • Portfolio and resume readiness scores increased from 3.2 to 4.8 out of 5

  • Job market confidence scores jumped from 2.8 to 4.3 out of 5

  • 100% of students felt more prepared to speak to their work

  • 100% would recommend the program

  • Within weeks of the cohort’s completion, a VP of Brand Design at HBO Max reached out directly to Lehman faculty to refer program participants for two open roles, bypassing the centralized HR systems that typically screen out emerging cretaives before a hiring manager ever sees their work.

Mentor Outcomes

  • 75% of mentors described being surprised by the sophistication of students’ work and the freshness of perspectives they brought

  • 83% mentors spoke to watching a student take feedback, incorporate it, and visibly grow in confidence over the course of the program

  • 75% said they would recommend their mentee for a junior-level position

  • 91% said they would participate again

Based on the results of the pilot, the program is expanding in fall 2026 to an additional 15 students and multiple program components.

INVESTMENT

The Career Readiness Accelerator is designed as a shared investment. Your institution’s investment is matched by an Industry Partner, that Impact Collaborative recruits and manages. The Industry Partner also contributes mentors, real-world briefs, and access to their professional environment.

The result is a fully resourced program that neither your institution or the Industry Partner would have been able to build alone, and a foundation for an ongoing, mutually beneficial relationship between your institution and major creative industry employers.
